Latrobe SC: Elf Tranzporter performs hip hop

A Friday afternoon at school aint so bad when hip hop artist Elf Tranzporter perfroms during Period 5 & 6! To help the 30 students who are making a hip hop album for their Pop Fiction project, Elf Tranzporter performed in front of the whole school and then afterwards ran a workshop with the 30 students making hip hop for bumble.

Latrobe SC: VCE students making Footprints in the Sand!

VCE students asked, what are the footprints that we leave behind on others and what footprints do others mark on us? In the context of To love Veronica Bee, students listed the names of the people/places/things that left an imprint on Veronica's life. They then chose one of these people/places and presented a footprint that demonstrated the impact that person/place had on Veronica's life.

Latrobe SC: VCE students illustrate mannequins for bumble!

How out there is that! Students have choosen to illustrate shop mannequins in the theme of To love Veronica Bee. They're covering their mannequin in artwork and adding attachments (like one student is adding bee wings). Mannequins are then animated in a hip hop music vid clip for bumble!

Essendon Keilor College: claymation models for bumble!

Check out Robert's models for his claymation. Far left is Nick (with his punk spiky hairdo), Penny (with fishnet stockings), Veronica Bee (plaits) and who do you reckon is on the far right???

Mapping Veronica Bee!

On page 56 of TLVB, Veronica and her family leave their house in Yarra Valley and drive to their new house at Kew.
"The vineyard's terraces flashed past. I closed my eyes and focused on the swirling colours rather than on the blackness. I thumbed the piece of paper I'd torn from Mum's letter and pushed it deeper into my pocket, but careful not to crush the clover inside. I still wasn't sure what the 'hard patch' she'd mentioned was. What was wrong? And what if they couldn't sort it out: then what? Mum turned onto Cherry Tree Road and accelerated towards Melbourne."

Latrobe SC: VCE's popping into fiction!

VCE students are creating a wide range of Pop Ficton for bumble. Creations include recording hip hop songs about TLVB, shop mannequins illustrated in the theme of TLVB and to be animated for their hip hop music clip, a movie trailer about the book, an alternative book cover, wallpapers, a powerpoint retelling the Bee's move from Yarra Valley to Kew and the list goes on... No wonder we reckon VCE's rock!

Veronica's house at Kew!

It's true! Veronica's house at Kew is based on a real building on Swan Street in Richmond, Melbourne.

Plus, when I was writing the final draft of To love Veronica Bee they started building Federation Square in Melbourne. I was surprised to see how similar the triangle shapes were to my description of Veronica's houses in Kew and Yarra Valley. Latrobe SC: VCAL's and Year 9's make animation!!!

Ms Stafford's VCAL and Year 9 class are making animations for bumble. As a warm up, they got to make an animation about anything they'd like (it didn't have to be related to To love Veronica Bee). As you can imagine, there were lotsa silly ones and lotsa funnies and lotsa rude stuff that we can't show at bumble. It was a great way for the class to play around with Flash and see what's possible for when they do make an animation about To love Veronica Bee that will be showcased in bumble's Honey Pot.

Latrobe SC: Veronica's 10 Wishes!!!

In the book To love Veronica Bee, Veronica finds a four-leaf clover and grants herself 10 wishes. When things in her life get too difficult or really crappy she wishes to be somewhere else.

Latrobe SC: Year 7's are making Altered Books!!!

WHAT IS AN ALTERED BOOK?!?
Here's a sneak preview of some Year 7's starting on their altered books for their Pop Fiction project!

First they cover a secondhand book with coloured paper, then decorate the cover with drawings, add a title in big neat writing and then inside they cover each page with an activity about To love Veronica Bee. Here's examples of activities students have already made:
A maze: help Veronica find her way from Yarra Valley to Kew
Crack the code: solve the email abbreviations that Veronica and Suzie write to each other
Spot the difference: difference between Veronica in picture 1 and picture 2
Wordsearch: find the words and names of places in To love Veronica Bee

Latrobe SC: VCAL and Year 9's make Rockart!!!

Ms Stafford's VCAL & Year 9's made rockart, just like how Veronica's friends made rockart for her as a farewell gift on her last day at Yarra Valley High. You can read about that on page 13 of To love Veronica Bee.

HOW'D THEY MAKE THEIR ROCKART?
During class time, each student went out to the schoolyard and found a rock. They brought their rock back into the classroom and painted it with one colour.

Introducing students from Latrobe Secondary College!!!

In Term 1 2005, 180 students from Latrobe Secondary College are participating in the 2005 Pop Fiction Youth e-Literature Event. It’s unique that students from all year levels are participating, including WAVE, VCAL & Year 12’s!

I’m ‘writer in residence’ whilst students make Pop Fiction artwork and multimedia related to To love Veronica Bee. Creations are showcased in bumble.com.au’s Hive and Honey Pot plus students add comments right here in the Buzz Room. At the end of Term 1, students’ creations are exhibited at the State Library of Victoria (March 14th-24th).

Introducing Pop Fiction’s Year 12 Media students from Essendon Keilor College!!!

In Term 1 2005, three students from Essendon Keilor College are making Pop Fiction multimedia. First they read To love Veronica Bee, then make a short work of media about the book’s story and/or characters, themes, issues and symbols. Short works are approximately 2-3 minutes in length and creations can be in any artform, such as animation, film/vid, web page or whatever students come up with! Creations are then showcased at www.bumble.com.au and exhibited on the big screen at Experimedia (State Library of Victoria) March 14th-24th 2005.
